ANCIENT CHINA
The world’s oldest
civilization is China. In saying that, when we talk
about ancient China we can safely say that the civilization
goes back some 3500 years. And, we are fairly certain
that it can be dated to 5000 years as well. So you
can imagine that it has had a great influence on all
the other civilizations of the world. China led the
way in the art of writing, social activities, thought
development, kowledge and philosophy, agriculture,
engineering, architecture and much more.
What does this civilization
have to provide for the people of the world? What
kept this civilization so strong? There are many contributing
factors to that, but what we should talk about here
are the people in ancient China that became leaders
in their time and have led a great country.
During the Shang Dynasty
in 13th century BC, we get our first written record
of Chinese history. It is said to be inscribed on
oracle bones. But, there are historical accounts dating
back another 1300 years through the knowledge of the
Five Emperors.
So, we start with the Xia
Dynasty. Here we get the foundations of the characters
that would later be used in Chinese writing. Then,
in the Shang Dynasty, we begin to see the use of various
political parties.
During the Zhou Dynasty,
we see many things begin in the way of knowledge.
The Hundred Schools of Thought are developed and the
movements of Confucianism, Taoism and Mohism are begun
as intellectual awareness excelled. During the Qin
Dynasty we see the beginning of Imperial China. The
period began with the rule of Ying Zheng. This dynasty
is known for the development of the Great Wall of
China.
During the following dynasty,
Han, Confucianism has really taken hold. Arts and
sciences are developing fully. Here, we see the beginnings
of the Silk Road as well. What we see happen time
and time again in ancient China is the dividing and
the conquering of various areas. At some points, the
empire was much smaller than others. Then, again,
the Chinese seemed to take a foothold in much of the
area for quite awhile. Throughout these various ups
and downs, we find the foundation of government, education,
and the development of society at various levels.
Proceeding through time
we find a wide range of people that lead a determined
and powerful nation.
